Last Wednesday I posted the introduction to the workshop on the spirit of poverty that was led by Bill Axtell as a part of New Life Valley Ministries.

Today I want to cover the first root cause of this condition. Here are Bill Axtell’s words:

One of the roots of the spirit of poverty is – the spirit of fear

These are some of our most common fears:

• fear of failure
• fear of commitment
• fear of want or need
• fear of insufficiency
• fear of rejection
• fear of injury, sickness, or pain and suffering

The enemy keeps us so bound up in fear that we cannot function effectively for the Kingdom of God.

Because fear is often brought on by having an idol in our lives, here are five questions to help identify any idols you may find in your life:

1. Does something have my affection or attention more than God? (See the story of Abraham and Isaac in Genesis 22:1-19)
2. Am I afraid of losing something or giving it up?
3. Does my protection of something cause conflict in my life personally and with others?
4. Does it interfere with the fruit I bear?
5. Where do I have the most invested?

I’m going to sneak in an extra post today:

Christmas is coming.  I always have mixed feelings about Christmas.  I absolutely love the carols, the traditions, the lights, the decorations, the stories, the food, the family stuff – all of it.  I struggle with the materialism – I’m sure most of us do.

Lately I’ve been challenged by sites like The Advent Conspiracy, and similar causes that encourage us to look beyond ourselves and help those in need.  I’m wanting to find something that helps all year long, though, not just at Christmas time.

One thing I’ve done is I’ve signed up with Compassion Canada as an advocate, and when I did workshops and such as the Mom-Defrazzler I always had a table set up and gave a quick introduction to their work.  Now that I’m no longer doing the Mom-Defrazzler I am looking for other ways to promote their work. I have widgets here on my blog and on my Facebook page that enables you to find out more and/or sponsor a child, and we as a family also sponsor 3 kids through them.

However, I also have three siblings that are living in poverty right here, close to home.  Not because they’re lazy – they are, in fact, extremely hard-working.  Life has just dealt them a bad hand.  For about 5 years now I’ve been searching online for something that would help get them out of the pits and into some financial stability, but it’s always been either too expensive, too time consuming, or needed too many computer skills.

Over the past month I’ve been working through these issues altogether.  How can I bring all of this need together and create something special that helps those close to home as well as those far away?  What if there were a way to give my siblings financial stability, and the ability to pursue their dreams this Christmas, and was also able to help those far away?

I hope I’ve come up with a solution.  After a lot of (rather expensive) research I’ve discovered a few internet programs that actually work, and, if you put them together properly, these programs can create a very solid, long-term financial foundation for people like my siblings.   The program takes next to no time to set up, costs just $14 one time (everything else comes from profits) and if done properly can be bringing in money by Christmas (though I recommend in the course that you don’t touch it for 90 days so that you can create long-term residual income with it, and I’ll show you how).  You need to spend an afternoon setting up the marketing (which becomes pretty much hands free) and you only need about 5 people working with you to make a success of it.

In order for me to be able to keep tabs on how my family is doing with this, I need to be involved as well, but I don’t need to be making a whole lot of extra money, as God has already blessed us abundantly.  So I decided I would donate 50% of all my earnings to Compassion’s Global Food Crisis Fund with the goal of raising $100,000 this year for that cause.
