Birthdays and Beginnings
Today is my birthday, and as such, it signifies a fresh, new beginning.
I love anything that makes me feel like I have a fresh new beginning: quiet early mornings at the start of a new day, Mondays, the first of a new month, the first of a new year, the beginning of anything new, really. Fresh beginnings give me hope, and I need all the hope I can get! 🙂
Some years, I get very philosophical. Some years I have grandiose plans to change the world. This year, I’m just sitting in a place of deep gratitude.
I have a husband who not only loves me, but is willing to make many sacrifices to let me live out my dreams and crazy schemes. He never says or implies “I told you so” and yet the opportunities are plentiful. He makes me laugh, loves me when I smell bad, look bad, and act bad, and still makes me feel beautiful.
I have two kids who bring a tear to my eyes on a regular basis just because they’re so amazing (how did I manage to raise two such wonderful kids?!!) and who don’t mind hanging out with their old mom; kids with whom I can laugh easily and frequently.
I have friends who love me in spite of so many faults. I have friends who make me laugh out loud at myself, I have friends who speak truth and who love me through it. I have friends who call me up to let me know they’re thinking of me. I have friends who met me back when I had MANY more sharp corners to knock off my personality, and who are still around today. I have friends who love to help me celebrate my victories and achievements and who cheer me on as I work towards my goals.
I live in a free country where I don’t have to be worried about being shot for my beliefs, ostracized for my choices, and where options for how to live my life are plentiful and rich. I’ve lived in other perfectly civilized countries, but this one is the best.
And I am loved by an Almighty Creator.
It’s hard to think of a life that’s more perfect than this.
Happy birthday, indeed.
