Back in 2008 I walked my very first marathon. I was over-trained, burned out, inexperienced, and not totally prepared for what was coming. I also didn’t realize that over half the marathon was on a pretty steep grade uphill!

I came in second to last, in tears, after 7 hours, 33 minutes and 59 seconds. I was in rough shape!

Since then I’ve wanted to walk another marathon, but do it in good shape, properly trained, strong, and fully aware of what to expect. I’ve tried to re-train several times, but I’m really terrible at long-term maintenance. I realized I can’t tackle big projects without help to keep me focused on the long run!

A couple of weeks ago I met a woman through our business and we went for a walk. In passing I mentioned my desire to do a marathon again, and she jumped at the opportunity!

So, without further ado, we decided to go back and to that same marathon – The BMO Okanagan Marathon 2012 on October 7, 2012.

What’s been amazing, is just knowing my friend is doing this with me has meant that I’ve been getting up and doing my training almost every morning (it doesn’t start officially until March 27) and no matter how hard I tried before, I just could not drag these bones out of bed. Amazing, this power of mutual support!

This is going to be a blast. If there’s anyone else out there who wants to train and walk with us, let me know. Post it in the comments, and I’ll get the information to you.

Woohoo! Kelowna, here we come!
