Choose to Whine or Choose to Win.
Oct 19
I’m not really big on politics. I’m somewhat ignorant of the situation in the world – I admit. I am working towards fixing this by reading through “The Economist” every week (another goal that is sometimes met, sometimes not).
One thing that is evident is the mess going on in Europe and how politicians are working to fix some serious economic crises, but the people aren’t willing to experience a little hardship to bring balance to their lifestyle.
Heck I see it in my own finances. I’m not too keen on giving up my pleasures to balance my chequebook.
At the end of the day, however, I’m responsible.
I’m not only responsible for my chequebook balance, I’m responsible for my life. I need to accept that I am the source of my current lifestyle, good, bad or otherwise. Sure, I had a few bumps growing up -so did we all – but it’s not my parents’ fault that I’m often screwed up. Their parenting might have created a few problems, but I am responsible for my reaction. Is something broken? Then I need to get help to get it fixed.
In reading through the Success Principles, Principle number 1 was about taking full responsibility for where I am now, and where I’m going to end up. Sure, other have had their input good or bad, but the response to all of that is my decision. I can choose to whine or I can choose to win.
Jack Canfield shares a great equation: Event + Response = Outcome.
I can’t control the events of my life, but I can control how I respond. Too many times I just sit on my butt and let stuff happen when I should be fighting against it. I whine instead of taking steps to change my situation so things don’t happen again. I dream instead of moving.
I don’t want to live like that anymore. I want to live with focus. I only get one shot at this. I’m going to push a little harder and move towards those goals with more energy and passion.
How about you?
