Weight Loss and Superfoods: Oats

Ok, lookin’ much better.  I was faithful to my habits that we’re working on in the N.A.V.Y. Challenge.  I’ve added my extra 100 steps per day average, and am keeping up with the lemon, the vinegar, and the other tasks fairly well.  My decision to only walk on non-working days has worked well for me.  No stress.  I’m having an issue with my right knee – damaged it with a ball bucket at Gymboree – so I think I’ll head over to the doctor’s today to make sure it’s ok.  I went for a 5k walk yesterday and took pictures of the Fall colours.  Ended up with 15,000 steps at the end of the day, so today will be a rest day in good conscience!  Won’t hurt my knee any to take a rest day, either!

So, on to our superfood for the day!

Oats, peas beans and barley grow,
Oats, peas, beans and barley grow,
Can you or I or anyone know
Why oats, peas, beans and barley grow?

I remember that rhyme as a kid – I think I played it on the piano at one time.  Anyway, today’s superfood is Oats.  Most people think oats are boring – they think of watery, tasteless oatmeal, I think, but oats are delicious and nutty, and extremely good for you.

Oats are an excellent source of soluble and insoluble fiber

Oats protect you against:

  • heart disease
  • many cancers, including colon cancer
  • high cholesterol
  • depression (natural antidepressant used to treat depression, anxiety and nervous disorder)
  • stress
  • fatigue
  • constipation and
  • help many Type II diabetics better manage their blood sugar levels

Want to add more oats to your diet?  Here are some yummy recipes you can try!
