My Marathon Countdown: 4 days!

It’s been a wild couple of weeks. I’ve been tapering my training, and am down to doing only 5 and 10k distances at a nice, moderate pace. I’ve been suffering a deep fatigue and brain fog that has made me feel unfocused, weepy, and altogether “lost”. I swing between the confidence that I can master this distance with careful planning and good physical/mental preparation, and the fear that I won’t last 10k and have to quit and come home. Living with myself is becoming a major hassle!

I’m learning to let go. To just enter with confidence, preparation, and opening myself to the fun and challenge of the race – not worried about time as much as just getting to the end of it. I want to focus on the present moment while I walk, taking in the beauty of Kelowna, the interesting people around me, the sense of freedom while I walk. I want to be open to whatever laughter God sends.

As I work through these ups and downs, I realize more and more that this is how I want to live my life, as well. To focus on finishing well with openness of spirit, a heart full of joy and laughter, and the ability to live in, learn from, and grow through the present.

It’s so cool how God sends us our own Parables as we live out our lives with him. In just a few days this race will be over, but the greater race continues, as does my own training. May I say with Paul in 2 Timothy 4:7, (about both my life and this race) “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
