What if it were true?
Sep 03
On Monday we talked about the importance of posture, both for your body and for your confidence.
Today I want to talk about Spiritual posture.
If we look around any church today, we will probably see a group of people who are stressed, overwhelmed, frustrated, struggling, bored, lost, and often in pain. Often there’s a sense of defeat, as if to say “this wasn’t what I signed up for”. We don’t really look or live any differently than the folks who don’t have Jesus backing them up every day.
Take a look at Philippians 4:19 in a number of different translations:
And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. (New International Version)
You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, his generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus. (The Message)
And my God will liberally supply (fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. (Amplified)
My God will use his wonderful riches in Christ Jesus to give you everything you need. (New Century Version)
And my God will give you everything you need because of His great riches in Christ Jesus.(New Life Version)
My God will supply all that you need from his glorious resources in Christ Jesus. (Phillips)
What if you lived as if that verse – in any of its translations – were true? How would your life be different? Great spiritual posture comes from living as if God actually meant what He said. I don’t mean we should “beat ourselves into believing this”. We shouldn’t be making ourselves feel guilty if this isn’t true for us. This isn’t about “adding yet another thing” to our crowded lives. It’s about stopping, tuning in, and having God show us in His quiet, gentle way, how He’s looking after us.
I think, for me, the conflict comes when I just haphazardly fill my calendar without checking in with God, first. I make assumptions, or act out of guilt, or out of a need to impress. When God dictates my calendar, I am much more able to live in the posture of Philippians 4:19.
As we enter into a new school year, start taking your calendar into your prayer closet BEFORE you write appointments and to-do lists. See what a difference that makes.
